Six kilos of turtle-safe rubbish

Our K-1 and K-2 classes spent Friday morning combing the beach opposite the reserve island, sorting what they found into what could be recycled and what could not. Six kilos came home in our buckets — mostly rope and bottle caps that wash up with the tide. The children weighed it, sorted it, and talked about why the reserve's turtles need the beach kept clear.
